Holistic Care & Community for EDS & Hypermobility

About Dr. Dana Arie

Doctor of Physical Therapy | Orthopedic &
Dance Medicine Specialist | Pilates instructor

I became passionate about rehabilitation science when I was recovering from a dance injury during my undergraduate studies. Later, during my orthopedic residency at Mass General, I conducted medical research in Pilates-based protocols for those with EDS / hypermobility, which fueled my devotion supporting this community with safe and effective movement that reduces risk of injury and improves quality of life.

I am also a Professor of Pilates at Berklee University, a Physical Therapist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and a competitive latin dancer. I live in Brookline with my husband and two daughters, and love bringing the joy of movement to every aspect of my life.

I am a Harvard and Duke-educated Health & Wellness coach and consultant, specializing in supporting those with hypermobility, EDS, POTs, and other chronic illnesses. After a complicated health journey through my teens and twenties, I was diagnosed with POTs in 2002 and hEDS in 2008. My passion is to embrace as much joy as possible in the face of chronic illness and support others along their health journeys.

Prior to MotionMindFlow, I founded a nature-based school and worked in daily operations for more than a decade. I live in Cambridge, MA with my husband, two children and golden retriever.

Our story begins in 2023…

I (Cecily) found an exciting class called Pilates for Hypermobile Dancers, taught by Dana. I was immediately hooked and couldn’t get enough of her approach to movement, injury prevention, and overall wellness. Too soon, I “graduated” from PT with Dana, but we knew instinctively that we would stay in each other's lives.

Several months later, over a good cup of coffee, we realized that where hospital-based PT ends is a massive void for further movement help, particularly for a population that can’t always go to gym or group classes. We shared a joint aha moment of the mind-body connection when it comes to EDS and hypermobility - movement is enhanced by mindful awareness, and wellness is enhanced by safe, effective movement.

And so MotionMindFlow was born - from the firm belief that motion and mind need to flow together. The name came to us in our backyard over a delicious dinner while our children were playing happily :)
